Manzocco: The Roots

The history of the Manzocco family | Farm and winery in Cormòns (City of Wine)

In the beginning it was grandfather Amedeo.
He was born on August 14, 1892, in Nimis, by Giovanni Battista and Angela Comelli. Where "Ramandolo" is born, she toasted with the best Verduzzo, virtually transferring - as was customary - the peasant flavor and the art of the vineyard and wine. From father to son, then as now. Then came the war, poverty, emigration. Udine, 25 January 1927... and he set off to find in Australia what the "Piccola Patria del Friuli" could not give him. But the ticket, luckily for him, wasn't a one-way ticket. He worked hard and saved enough to return to his lands as a protagonist.
Cormòns farmer welcomed him well - it was 1930 - and Amedeo planted the first Tocai vines at the foot of Monte Quarin, where the "Collio" joins the best of the Isonzo.

Then came Giulio...
When - in 1964 - the Consortium for the Protection of Collio Wines was founded, the Manzocco family, with over one hundred hectoliters of good DOC wine, already ranked among the most interesting realities in the area. With the ideal handover - from grandparents to my father Giulio and mother Liliana - the new important era of the Manzocco family began.

And lastly...
The first bottlings began, the great satisfactions, the customers (including many foreigners) became friends; the Family grew and, well harmonizing the seasons of work with those of love, it was completed with my brother Roberto (more suited to studies) and with me, Dario, who loves the land and looks forward with enthusiasm, respecting the strong traditions handed down to me in time.

THE "AUSTRIAN FRIULI"
It was in Cormòns that on 12 August 1866 the Italo-Austrian armistice was signed which would have brought the border of the Empire to the Judrio torrent; a few meters, therefore, from our company. Different languages, customs and uses - respected by the Governments of the time - but also the availability of the great Austrian markets, allowed the populations relative well-being.
From Cormòns all the first fruits (plums, cherries, peaches, grapes but, above all, the great wines Tocai, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia etc.) were sent to the Courts and to the restaurants of the big cities. This was the case until the First World War.

Collio, Isonzo, Judrio and the Adriatic Sea frame a happy area where the vineyard is affected by the nature of the soil

Cormòns, "City of Wine", is located in the heart of a territory where historical vicissitudes, re-confinements and socio-economic ferments confirm a unique "frontier" charm.

The "Manzocco Vineyard" descends from the "Collio" and, with a gentle slope, captures the potential - perfumes and aromas - of the mixed gravels of the Isonzo. Undoubtedly the marls and sandstones of the hills give particular structure and personality to the wines; especially the white ones benefit greatly from it.
